The Curtains Were Torn in Two – An Easter Message

Mark 15:38 And the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion who stood facing Him saw Him (Christ) expire this way, he said, “Really, this Man was God’s Son.”

Easter story
Do you ever read scripture and just kind of skim over it because you don’t fully comprehend the significance? Verse 15:38 is just one little sentence. But it holds so much significance!

Doesn’t your heart get excited? Mine does.

So, these curtains in the temple were torn in two after (when He was on the cross) “Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed out His life.” Mark 15:37

A little back story here: These weren’t your ordinary curtains from Target. The curtains are said to have measured 60 feet high, 30 feet wide and 4 inches thick!

Back then, only high-priest were allowed to go into God’s presence and just once a year. The priests would bring the blood of a sacrificed animal to “cover” the sins of himself and his people.

The ripping of the curtains was a game-changer. The veil of the temple was torn, opening the curtains for all of us to go into the presence of God.

A-ha! The curtains were so thick and heavy there was no possible way any human could have done it. Let that sink in a moment…

That was purely God power.
Jesus’ death opened a new way of living for us. We have the ability to have a personal relationship with Him.
That is truly a gift worth celebrating this Easter Sunday.
